The Island of the Dolls, located in Mexico, is a tourist attraction known for its hundreds of dilapidated dolls hung throughout. Legend claims the dolls were placed there by the island's former owner, Don Julián Santana Barrera, to appease the spirit of a young girl who drowned nearby.  Barrera's death in the same location added to the island's mystique. The site has been featured in various media, showcasing both its eerie atmosphere and the associated folklore. Despite its macabre nature, visitors continue to visit, leaving offerings and participating in a form of unique, albeit unusual, worship.
