Shack fires in informal settlements are an ongoing challenge and when not detected early enough, have disastrous consequences for thousands of people. A group of friends brought together their diverse skills, and turned the fire detector - that started as a student’s thesis project - into a viable product and business which is now saving lives and homes. Telana speaks with one of the founders and directors of Lumkani, Emily Vining, about their journey from startup to award winning social enterprise.
