Today I was joined by the wonderful Jo who has now been 5 years sober. Jo is a high energy woman, mum of 2 who shares her journey of giving up alcohol, the ups, the downs and her story and how different life is now. We met 15 years ago when we did our Aerobics teacher training and we just clicked. We lost touch over the years but Jo reached out last year when I began my podcast and shared her battles which I had no idea at the time when we met, ironically I was struggling with bulimia at the time whilst Jo was struggling with her demons. Jo has now been sober for 5 years yet went through a breakdown 3 years ago after replacing drinking with a need to push harder and harder at work for everything to finally come to a head and hit a wall where Jo has taken a step back to figure out who she is and what makes her happy.
We discuss the normalisation of drinking, what Jo went through, substance abuse, working through acceptance and forgiveness, the experiences from growing up and how they affected us in our teens to now, what kept Jo pushing through her recovery, how Yoga changed her life plus plenty of real talk.
