The Journey: Part 3 | Serve

Listen Later

We all love the idea of being a servant, but most of us struggle with the reality of being treated like one. In Part 3 of our series, The Journey, Pastor Brandon Woodard gets honest about the one marker of a disciple that challenges us the most: Serving Others.

It’s easy to surrender when it feels like a rescue, and it’s exciting to grow through study—but serving requires us to kill our ego every single day. We often want to be the most recognized but the least inconvenienced. We do an internal calculation of time, money, and bandwidth, asking, "Is the juice worth the squeeze?"

In this message, we look at how Jesus flipped the pyramid of power. From the "insensitive" request of James and John in Mark 10 to the scandalous moment in the Upper Room where the most powerful person in the room traded His robe for a towel, Jesus shows us that in His kingdom, the way up is actually down.

Are you ready to stop protecting your position and start practicing your purpose?

Message Highlights:

[08:46] The Internal Calculation: Why we hesitate to serve and the "recognition vs. inconvenience" struggle.

[12:00] The Insensitive Request: Understanding James and John’s desire for the "left and right hand" seats.

[18:20] Confidence as a Prerequisite: Why you can't truly serve others until you have confidence in who God called you to be.

[20:43] The Scandal of the Towel: Why washing feet was a job reserved for the "lowest" person—and why Jesus did it anyway.

[26:41] Serving the Betrayer: The significance of Jesus washing the feet of Judas.

[30:00] The "Knowing" Gap: Why the blessing isn't in knowing the Word, but in doing it.

The Towel Challenge:

If you’re a disciple of Jesus, you are called to be a participant in the mission, not just a spectator in the house. This week, find a place for your "towel"—on your desk, your dashboard, or your mirror—as a daily reminder that you are called to serve first.
