People learn from many people in their life. They learn from family, friends, neighbors, their community, their workplace, and others. But when people talk of 'teachers, they are generally talking about schoolteachers--those who instruct in academic settings from preschool to grad school. These teachers are generally with a person six to seven hours a day, five days a week, nine months a year, for 12 to 20 years. Their aggregate impact on the individual is substantial. This impact can range from very negative to very positive for both the student and the teacher.
