This course will discuss the job functions of the SLP in a skilled nursing facility as a member of the rehab team, the Interdisciplinary team, staff educator, and advocate. Additionally, common misconceptions of working in long term care will be addressed with a review of the benefits. Functional neurological disorder (FND) is a problem with the ‘software’ of the brain that can occur across the lifespan. Clear education about the disorder and the use of distraction to help access more autonomic pathways is the current consensus treatment for communication and swallowing disorders.
