Listen Later

In this episode of the podcast Gavin talks about a conversation he had with a beautiful young lady who is not proud of being the heaviest she’s ever been, which inspired the idea for this podcast episode.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Muscle doesn’t float, so for my cross-channel swim attempt I put on 20 kilos of fat and I went to extraordinary lengths to do so : double/triple meals in the evening, double/triple patty burgers, not being able to eat but pushing it down. I cam out of the experience thinking that the best way to deal with it was a quick fix: do intermittent fasting for three months, a juice detox for a month, do certain things at the gym. Very quickly I began to realise that this wasn’t the right way, that I had to do it consistently and slowly.
  • At the moment I’m at the gym five times a week, largely to do with rehab for the tendon in my shoulder from the swimming. I do wonder what would happen if I wasn’t rehabbing, would I relax out of the gym and go swimming full-time? When I do go back to swimming it’s got to be 65% swim and 35% rehab in the gym.
  • Once you have the awareness that there is something that you’d like to do, something in your life that you’d like to change, it doesn’t matter what it is: the way you look, the amount of money you earn, the type of person you date, whatever it is. Once you have the awareness you can change the strategy, the action, the language, and you get different results.
  • Instead of looking in the mirror and having that judgement against self, whatever that judgement is, if you change that and instead say to yourself: “I am loving this journey, I am one remarkable human being, I share my value with the world, and my greatest gift is to myself.”

BEST MOMENTS

‘In the fitness world there’s a phrase: Consistency over intensity. I’m more of an intensity over consistency guy. This is something I’m correcting on my journey.’
‘I haven’t always struggled with weight but I’ve gone through phases, 5-10 years where I was overweight, 5-10 years where I was at a good weight. People always, always – it’s a human thing – judge.’
‘There’s no substitute for a strong foundation.’
‘If we take judgement upon ourself, how can we expect others not to take judgement upon us? We have to release, remove that shame, that anger, that frustration, that guilt, and love, simply love ourselves for who we are now.’

ABOUT THE HOST

Gavin Scott is a born entrepreneur with a passion for start up and scale up. He has over 20 years real estate experience in investment and development.

Gavin says: Over the years I have discovered that mindset is everything. Now, that might sound obvious, but it is! You see the number of awoken minds are very few in reality. Whilst acknowledging mindset is key it is absolutely different from utilising, influencing, impacting and effecting great change, for yourself, your loved ones, friends, colleagues and the wider public.

Why?

Like most of us I have had many ups and downs. I want to share the lessons learnt and promote a better environment for all, internally and externally!

How?

Through sharing my own experiences and hosting some fabulous individuals including some big household names to discuss key topics around mindset and the success formulas I hope the listener will become inspired to create space for change for betterment in their lives. I aim to inspire change by encouragement, not by force. I intend to inspire by education, not by regulation.
