Luna stands in the corridor of doors after hearing Eleanor ask if the chain is ready to end. She reaches for the key in her pocket—the same one that has fit every lock—and opens the door marked 1973. Inside she finds a room that is not a room: a memory of the motel's first night, when Eleanor checked in with a suitcase full of photographs. Eleanor is young, sitting on the bed, writing the first line of the ledger. Luna watches her own name appear in the ink. The static TV shows Luna from behind, watching herself watching. Eleanor looks up and says the chain has already ended, but Luna is still here. The walls bleed photographs of every version of Luna, and she must decide whether to step into the image of herself that is already walking away.
