John 4 “The Samaritan Woman”
● This story shows the compassion of Jesus toward
people struggling in life.
○ Jesus knows there’s an enemy who is trying
to derail us from accomplishing the call of
God on our life.
○ Jesus knows that we just don’t know
anything. He said “forgive them, they know
not what they are doing”
○ God loves us period. He loves us too much
to leave us the way we are.
● The key to winning in this life is a personal
relationship with Jesus.
John 4:10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew
the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a
drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have
given you living water.”
1. If you know God, then you know that He is the
only one who will ever truly accept you, He knows
you, He’ll meet your needs and give you purpose.
a. Acceptance-most people only love us
because of what they don’t know. He will
never pack up and leave. Even after your
worst, grossest day, He is stable and will
never leave or forsake you. His perfect love
casts out all fear. Our #1 fear is rejection
and our #1 need is love.
i. Rom. 8:37 Yet in all these things we are
more than conquerors through Him
who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded
that neither death nor life, nor angels
nor principalities nor powers, nor
things present nor things to come, 39
nor height nor depth, nor any other
created thing, shall be able to separate
us from the love of God which is in
Christ Jesus our Lord.
b. Identity-Before we were born He knew us,
He has a plan for us, good things, good
thoughts, we are unique and were created
by Him individually.
c. Security-He will meet all our needs
according to His riches and glory in Christ
Jesus. If I am in the middle of a storm I am
secure in Him, but if I’m in a hammock on a
beach in Hawaii with a drink in my hand that
has an umbrella in it I’m not secure without
Him.
d. Purpose-to build His church and establish
His kingdom here on the earth.
e. You can have God meet these needs through
your relationship with Him or you can search
for someone/something else to meet these
needs and always be disappointed.
f. You will never be fulfilled w/o a relationship
with Jesus. You have a God shaped void in
your life and pleasure can’t fill that void, a
person can’t fill that void, only God can fill
that void.
John 4:13 Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever
drinks of this water will thirst again, 14 but whoever
drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst.
But the water that I shall give him will become in him a
fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”
1. She was “drinking from the wrong well”...or you
could say it this way...”she couldn’t get no
satisfaction”...or “she wasn’t winning at the game
of life”
2. When you are struggling in life, have a question,
not sure what to do...where do you go?
a. sister/brother
b. mom/dad
c. Deep dish pizza
d. Internet
e. Credit card
f. OR...do you run to the God who accepts you,
created you, provides for you, and gives you
purpose.
g. Do you trust Jesus with your problems, your
shortcomings, your anxieties, your issues,
your lack, your fears?? How about your
family, your business, your money, or your
future????
h. We do not spend time with the Lord to fulfill
some type of Religious Duty. We spend time
with God because we need HIM, WE TRUST
HIM, HE IS OUR PROVIDER
