This week on The Kindness Code, we sat down with Rhiannon Hughes - raised in the care system across the UK and Spain, and now working to change it from within.

She speaks openly about shame, loneliness, and the trauma of being taken into care as a child …..and how it was other children in care who first taught her empathy.

She left as a teenager. Ran away. Built an independent life in Mallorca. Then made a choice: to let go of anger instead of letting it define her.

That choice led to founding Residential Recruitment, and now Next Step Children's Care - a solo therapeutic home near Leicester and Derby for children with the most complex needs.

Her message to every carer she recruits: patience, consistency, and genuine care aren't optional. They're the job.
