Earl Snyder is Ross' dad. Earl started going up on the mountain in 2025. Earl is a ham radio operator and learned his skill as a communication specialist during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Germany and would relay communications for convoys. Everything was morse code, no push to talk communication.
When Earl left the service, he continued with ham radios and has done so as a hobby his whole life. His dream was to take is radios and do an excursion. Being up on the mountain, he is on an excursion and is living a dream.
We use the drone to run guide ropes over trees to pull wire for antennas. Earl is always trying to improve his antenna by changing the style balun and length of wire used.
One antenna was 250 feet of wire in the air. The first night, Earl contacted other ham radio operators from six different continents.
I am always filled with happiness to see Earl, my dad, at 83 years old, on this mountain, doing what he loves.
Dad, I love you! Ross
