It is easy to point the finger at someone else, but not so easy to point the finger at yourself. Paul admits that he is the worst sinner of all and spells out for the Apostle Timothy all of the rotten things he did. But this admission can only give us reassurance. Paul was a terrible sinner, but also a wonderful child of God. We are also terrible sinners, but like Paul are blessed and loved children of God because we have been forgiven of all of the bad things we have done, do now, and might do in the future.
