Welcome to “The Kleynenberg Perspective.”
In this episode, our two presenters pull back the curtain on a project born from creator and programmer Steven Kleynenberg’s "quiet obsession" with Apple’s aesthetic magic. Join them as they explore how a simple desire to bring the shifting hues of a dynamic desktop to a Linux workspace evolved into a full-scale 4K cinematic production, crafted in close collaboration with his AI co-pilot, Gemini
The Treasure Hunt for Catalina.heic
The journey begins in the hidden depths of the macOS system, specifically at /System/Library/Desktop Pictures/. This is where the “ultimate source,” a file named Catalina.heic, lives. Steven explores how he extracted the 8 original source images from this file to serve as the foundation for a living, breathing 24-hour journey.
The Workflow of the Future: Integrating Gemini AI
This wasn’t a solo mission. Steven is joined by his technical co-pilot, Google Gemini AI. For the smart professional looking to integrate AI into their workflow, this episode is a masterclass in collaboration. You’ll hear how Gemini helped: * Architect complex FFmpeg parameter strings. * Debug Makefile syntax errors in real-time. * Narrate the human story behind the code to create a viral-ready YouTube release.
The Engineering “Muscle”
How do you turn 8 static images into 7,203 frames of “liquid silk” motion? We dive into the technical heavy lifting—without getting lost in the weeds—explaining how a Linux-based Makefile pipeline and the minterpolate filter in FFmpeg achieved a buttery-smooth 60 FPS visual experience.
Why You Should Listen
Whether you’re a developer, a creative, or just someone who appreciates the intersection of curiosity and code, this episode proves that with the right AI partner, even a “digital curiosity” can become a professional-grade masterpiece.
Sit back, hit play, and join us for a journey through the 24-hour cycle of Catalina like you’ve never seen it before.

These sources examine the philosophical and scientific debate surrounding substrate flexibility, which questions whether consciousness can exist in non-biological matter. While a traditional physicalist view suggests that consciousness is a byproduct of material processes, authors Pober and Schwitzgebel argue that it is not exclusive to human biology. By applying the Copernican Principle, they propose that we are likely not unique; therefore, behaviorally sophisticated entities, such as aliens or advanced AI, could possess experience despite having different chemical compositions. The texts also contrast this with idealism, which suggests matter exists within consciousness, and panpsychism, which views mind as a fundamental property of all matter. Ultimately, the research suggests that consciousness is likely achievable across diverse physical media, challenging the idea that only "meat machines" can be sentient.

Project CyberCab: Inside the £50M Series A Pitch to Automate the Black Cab
This episode explores the visionary transformation of a London icon: the LEVC TX. While global competitors struggle with urban gridlock, Project CyberCab introduces a brilliant strategic “moat” by retrofitting the classic Black Cab with a mapless, vision-based AI stack. Because it remains a licensed taxi, the CyberCab retains the exclusive right to use London’s restricted bus lanes, slashing travel times by up to 40% while rival robotaxis remain stuck in traffic.
The technological core of this project is the digitalization of “The Knowledge.” By training its AI on the actual driving data of veteran London cabbies, the system bypasses the need for heavy HD mapping, making it uniquely resilient to the city’s constant roadworks.
The financial ambition is equally extraordinary. We break down the £50,000,000 Series A investment designed to scale the operation from an alpha prototype to a full commercial launch in Central London (Zone 1) within 30 months. With projected gross margins of 70%, Project CyberCab isn’t just a transport solution—it’s a high-margin technology monopoly built on the foundation of London’s most legendary heritage.
