Luna stands in the alternate Sycamore Ridge where the third lamp has always been lit. The woman who claims to be the first Luna offers a choice: forget everything by walking back through the door, or help bury the lamp. But her shadow moves laggingly, and Luna's hand passes through the lamp like it isn't there. The lamp pulses like a heartbeat, and Luna follows the pulse to a house she's never seen—a house waiting for someone to open the door. Inside, she finds a cradle that rocks on its own and a photograph of her grandmother holding a baby that could be Luna herself. On the back is a date: twenty years before Luna was born. The lamp's pulse quickens, and Luna realizes she is not in the past or the future—she is in a version of Sycamore Ridge where she has already been born and died. The woman in black is not the first Luna. She is something else wearing Luna's face. As the lamp's light turns red, Luna must decide whether to break the lamp or let it beat until dawn.
