In earlier episodes, we spent some time talking about endangered species and the act that binds each careful decision by landowners and specialists to preserve and rehabilitate entire ecosystems depending on disappearing wildlife. We took the trapeze to the other end of the spectrum in this month's episode to talk about one of the most abundant and costly wildlife species in Texas—the wild pig. NRI's Jay Long, who oversees the grant dollars dedicated to educating landowners about controlling wild pig populations and their negative impacts on natural spaces, especially water resources, joins us to share some ideas about methods and his experiences in the field. It's a wild ride!
We also want to take a moment to thank our veterans like Jay who have served, sacrificed and brought their skills to the workforce to make people and places better every day through their leadership and positive impacts. Thank you, servicemen and women, and thank you to the families who
support them every step of the way.
Content note: At 35:38, Jay reflects on the two methods for reducing pig populations if pigs are caught in a trap, including descriptions of dispatching pigs. This discussion ends at 38:34.
