Lyrics:
Well the mist settles down on the Texas trail
On a late September night
While the train takes the cattle on many a rail.
Leaves me old, hair turning white.
This is the last big cattle drive.
I’ve seen the good days, but this is 1905.
A new century brings a change in our lives.
This is the last big cattle drive.
I’ve walked a thousand roads and maybe more,
slept in many places feeling saddle sore.
40 years on the longhorn drive.
It’s hard to keep going. It’s hard to survive.
This is the last big cattle drive
I started as a wrangler back in ’65.
Stepped up to the plate and in 5 short years
headed up my first big cattle drive.
Well the mist settles down on the Texas trail
On a late September night
While the train takes the cattle on many a track
Leaves me old, no turning back.
This is the last big cattle drive.
This is the last big cattle drive.
This is the last big cattle drive.
