The film begins with a duel between Sir Jean de Carrouges (Matt Damon) and Jacques Le Gris (Adam Driver). But before we witness the final battle between the two, we go back in time to find out how they ended up here. We learn that after serving in combat together, the two considered each other good friends. But soon, small conflicts began to occur between them, finally leading to an accusation about Jacques Le Grid (Adam Driver) from Marguerite de Carrouges (Jodie Comer), Jean de Carrouges’s wife.
Instead of telling the story in a straight line, it is told from the viewpoint of the leading characters, taking audiences on an engaging story with a few surprises along the way. No matter the path, it’s evident that the two male leads, at some point, will be forced to settle matters, disputing through a challenging and deadly duel. The question is, who is telling the truth and who is telling lies? And naturally, the biggest question is who will survive the duel?
