He rose from an immigrant family in Pittsburgh to become the trail-blazing leader of the 1960’s pop art movement. Andy Warhol was on the cutting edge of everything – from painting to film, from sculpture to music – and images like his famed Campbell’s Soup Can helped define American popular culture. Yet even as a superstar, he remained an enigmatic and controversial figure. On February 22, 1987 the most famous living artist died unexpectedly in a New York hospital, at the age of 58.
