USS Underhill was one of the last Allied ships sunk in World War II. USS Indianapolis, which brought Littly Boy to Tinian, was sunk in the same area, also by a submarine, a few days later; USS Bullhead, a submarine, did not respond to a call (sent to all submarines on August 13) to return to port. Based on Japanese records, it was almost certainly sunk by Japanese aircraft a week after USS Indianapolis, on August 6.
