LEADERSHIP INSIGHTS
- Leaders struggle with the tension between what they intend to do and the impact they have.
- PERSUASION, INFLUENCE, and the ability to NEGOTIATE (PIN) helps to eliminate this tension.
- The three keys to get out of your own head and to gain the perspective of others—The ABC framework: Approach, Behavior, and Conversation
- Approach is your advance preparation (knowledge, research, etc.)
- Body language is one of the primary behavior factors to be aware of. Additionally, it is important to be aware of the “behavior” of the room (e.g. where and how people sit or position themselves in relation to each other).
- For conversation, think through what and how to say so that intention and impact align.
QUESTIONS TO INSPIRE US TO ACTION
- What is some lesson, saying, or experience that continues to influence your leadership to this day? Leadership is a privilege—this affects the attitude you bring to your leadership.
- Use three descriptors to finish this sentence: “A leader is…” Curious, empathic, and visionary.
- What is a question that leaders should be asking either themselves or others? What do you need from me to help you?
- What book would you recommend to leaders? The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield
- If you could get every listener to start doing something THIS week to help them be a better leader, what would it be? Think about how you can show empathy in a virtual context.
- As a general life principle, is it better to ask “why?” or “why not?” “Why not?” There are two parts: 1. Looking for opportunities and 2. Pressure testing ideas.
