The Legal Robot Podcast, Episode 3: The Probable Defenses of Julian Ongpin

Listen Later

Last October 18, 2021, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has indicted Julian Ongpin, son of businessman Roberto Ongpin, for possession of cocaine.  This is due to discovery of more than 12 grams of cocaine on a bed  inside a resort room  at San Juan, La Union.

According to the  police,  the illegal drugs were uncovered after Ongpin's girlfriend and artist Bree Jonson was found dead in the same room.

Under the Republic Act No.  9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Law,  the possession of more than 12 grams of cocaine is punishable by  life imprisonment to death and a fine ranging from five hundred thousand pesos to ten million pesos.   A criminal indictment for said offense is non-bailable.

Tonight's podcast episode will discuss  the probable defenses for drug possession, namely: satisfactory explanation and chain of custody rule.

The Legal Robot Podcast is produced by volunteer lawyers and law students for purely educational purposes.  It is uploaded twice a week on Spotify and other popular podcast platforms.
