Have you ever met someone who seems to always one-up your stories? You share something interesting about your life that felt really exciting, and then your friend says something like, “Well, I went to Hawaii last year too, and we didn’t just go to the beach. We also did a helicopter tour.”

When I meet people like that, I immediately want to leave the conversation.

But get this, God, the God of the universe, the God who can shape mountains, heal wounds, calm seas, create our innermost beings– this God has done it all. Yet, he never boasts.

Think about that.

God never responds to anyone in the Bible about how great he is.

The second phrasing in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 is Love is kind. We’ve been diving into if God is love then, God must be all the character traits Paul uses to describe love in his letter to the Corinthians.

But, what is kindness?

Dive into these thoughts with me, and then redefine your thoughts on God’s true character for yourself.

Our culture measures value in speed. “The food didn’t come fast enough—two stars.” But faster isn’t always better. God is not in a rush. Abandoning patience may mean abandoning something God is trying to grow in us. Patience is a gift. God’s patience is a gift.

Lately, when I pray I have been wondering if my requests and prayers make a difference to God.

I fully believe God wants to have a relationship with me and that prayer is an avenue to do this. It’s like how talking to a friend over coffee helps you grow closer to that friend, even if you leave just with warm feelings and a caffeine rush.

So I pray first to share my heart with God.

I also pray because I believe He can do things about my mess.

But since God’s plans are set and ultimately for our good, why does it seem like sometimes God changes his mind?
