If you were to ask your young person who Jesus is, what kind of answer will you get? Many youth groups today are only focusing on the relationship and issues, and not on the intellect on why Christianity is true. Hence over the last couple of decades many Christians cannot answer some of the basic questions about what Christianity is all about and why it is true.
In 2005 there was a seminal work by Christian Smith and Melissa Lundquist Denton entitled Soul Searching: The Religious and Spiritual Lives of American Teenagers. The main finding in this work was that that American teenagers are incredibly inarticulate about their religious beliefs, and most are virtually unable to offer any serious theological understanding.
