As we often discuss on Liberty Conspiracy Live, and as I and many others who teach economics or political philosophy have stressed, the very concept of politicians imposing tariffs on consumers is aggressive, insinuating the assumption that the politicians will use government guns against people if they do not pay the tax. Practically, this damages consumer operability, choices, and living standards, with the secondary consequence of redirecting to the state/government money consumers could have saved, redirecting it into the state via the taxes, and towards government-preferred industries which previously could not compete with the foreign competitor. This is immoral and anti-economic, and, as James Bovard has noted in his excellent book, “The Fair Trade Fraud”, consumers are harmed approximately eight times as much as the specific, government-preferred industry. Additionally, according to the US Constitution, only the Legislature can impose tariffs. Trump increased taxes more than any President in 70 years, via his taxes. Here is the headline:

Europeans ready to drop US long-bonds
Please keep in mind, the scourge of tariff taxes stands as a monstrous immorality, a coercive assault by the state on the sacred right of individuals to trade freely. These protectionist shackles, masquerading as national defense, plunder consumers by inflating prices and shielding inefficient producers from competition’s just verdict. Far from bolstering prosperity, tariffs drag the imposing nation into stagnation, crippling voluntary exchange—the lifeblood of economic vitality—and fostering cronyism that erodes true market innovation. The so-called “trade deficit” is no deficit at all, but a phantom conjured by government statisticians. Every trade is consensual; each party surrenders what they value less for what they desire more, yielding mutual gain. Liquidity spent on foreign goods inevitably returns as capital investment surplus, balancing payments through investor confidence in a freer economy. Witness the absurdity: if we tallied “deficits” between Brooklyn and Manhattan, politicians would wail over imbalances that are mere artifacts of meddlesome accounting. True liberty demands untrammeled free markets, where voluntary trades propel wealth, unhindered by the state’s predatory grasp.
