Today’s Scripture:

‭John 1:4 NIV‬

In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 

God said light be in Genesis 1:3, but he never had to say darkness be. Why? Because darkness was already present—it is the absence of light. He called light good because he saw that it was good, and he separated it from the darkness.

Darkness is the absence of light; light gives life; God is the life-giving source because from before time and eternity, he is God. Not was, but is God. The present God. There has never been darkness in him because he's light. But darkness existed because he commanded the light to be when he created the earth, so the first thing he said was, let their be light! 

In other words, bring forth life, illumination, truth, wisdom, and understanding. 

The darkness was always there, but it never produced life! Darkness doesn't have the capacity to produce life therefore it cannot produce life. Light is life, and God, through his Son Jesus, gives us light; he gives us life, eternal life, or we can say eternal light. God has never been in darkness; in him, there is no darkness. 

You cannot walk in darkness and have life. You'll find that your life is stagnant, you'll lack progression, things are difficult, and there's no hope because there's no light. Sin, then, is the absence of light. It is a life that does not have Christ because God is light, and in him, there's no darkness. If we say we have light, John says, and walk in darkness, we lie.

Jesus said, “‭I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me, or he finds nothing in me.” (John 14:30 NIV). What is he saying here? He's saying that in him, there's nothing to attract the enemy; there's no darkness, there's only light. So he says he found nothing in me! Prior to this verse in verse 6, Jesus says I am the way, the truth, and the life.

This life is in Christ; he made it clear that light is life. He says, "In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind." This life is the light of men. It is the light that gives life! You are a light bearer, and therefore, you bring light into every dark situation in your life. When you show up, light shows up, and darkness must disappear. 

The potential to stay in darkness is in us. Its there. We have darkness because men's hearts are desperately wicked. Family, the Scripture says we rather prefer darkness; we chose it over light; why? Because the things we do and desire to do are evil. So we can't play with darkness. It will consume us and bring death. But light has come, the light that gives life. 

We don't have to live in darkness anymore; there's a light that gives life; it is here; Jesus has come, and he's the dawning of this light. Death has no power over us anymore; light has come, life-giving light in Jesus Christ. Family, embrace this light, and you will never experience the death that darkness brings. Be the light, that the enemy will find nothing in you when he comes, and he will come. But light always drives out darkness; you have the light that gives life. Walk in it.
