Great Lakes Black — Fexingo Horror

The Light That Waited at Porphyry Point

Listen Later

On a moonless November night in 2018, Luna spent two weeks as a relief keeper at Porphyry Point Lighthouse on the north shore of Lake Superior. The regular keeper, a quiet man named Holmgren, left abruptly after a family call. His parting words: 'Don't answer the door after midnight.' The lighthouse was silent but for the fog horn—until the night a message appeared in the condensation on the lantern room glass, written backward so the lake could read it. Luna locked the door and stayed awake, but she still doesn't know what came for Holmgren. Years later, aboard a freighter, she sees a light from that direction—a station long automated. This is a story about thresholds, the things that wait on the other side of a locked door, and the questions we carry when we walk away.
