William Booth had a tremendous ministry in proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ, converting many to become followers of Jesus.  He began to focus his ministry primarily among the poor of London's East End.  Though persecuted, his ministry grew and he began calling it The Salvation Army, as the converts saw themselves having enlisted in the Lord's army.  And, the Salvation Army brass bands?  Would you find it a surprise they started out as protection for the Salvation Army workers?  Enjoy this bit of faith and history.
