In this episode of The Liminal Threshold, I explore the first leg of my three-part framework: Meaning, Identity, and Initiation.
Drawing on Viktor Frankl, logotherapy, recovery, and my own experience, I examine the existential vacuum, the “craving beneath the craving,” and the ways meaning can emerge through creation, love, responsibility, and our attitude toward suffering that cannot be changed.
Recovery here means more than recovery from addiction. It can mean rebuilding after grief, illness, divorce, trauma, career loss, or the collapse of an identity that once organized our lives.
Meaning does not always arrive as a grand purpose. Sometimes it begins with the next response: write the page, attend the meeting, make the call, care for another living being, feed the dragon.
Meaning asks why. Identity asks who. Initiation asks how we cross from what we were into what we are becoming.
This episode begins with the first question.
