Our first episode of Black History Month explores the Federal Writers' 1936 Florida Slave Narratives of Louis Napoleon of Tallahassee (of Arlington later in life) and Douglas Parish of Monticello. We also dive into the State of Florida's interpretation of The Lost Cause, a movement created by the United Daughters of the Confederacy in a last-ditch effort to bring honor for those they lost in the war. Also includes the TEDxUAMonticello Talk by Roy Wisecarver, a worthwhile message for those whose ancestors fought on the losing side of the Civil War.
