  1. Not good for Man to be alone” Genesis 2:18
    • God said there were many things good but this was the first that was “not good”.
    • He also goes on to say “I will make a helper suitable for him”

    • Ezer - Ezer has originally two meanings in Hebrew, depending on the pronunciation: to rescue/to save and to be strong. Ezer used for the woman, used for nations to whom Israel appealed for military aid, and used for God as Israel’s helper. Ezer is used consistently in military context. The Ezer is a warrior. You are a warrior.
    • Kenegdo means opposite as to him or corresponding as to him. A woman is no better or less than the man. Man and woman are equally and uniquely created, a perfect fit.
    • Just as a jigsaw puzzle is incomplete if half the pieces are missing, so a man is incomplete without his wife. God designed it so that the man needs the woman and the woman needs the man (see 1 Cor. 11:11).

      • 2.      We need God in the mix and in the lead.

      • Marriage has been described as a triangle with God at the top: the closer each partner moves to God, the closer they move toward each other. (3 ply cord Eph 4:12) The further each moves from God, the further they move from each other. As soon as Adam and Eve disobeyed God, they experienced alienation from each other and Adam began blaming Eve for his problems (Gen 3:7, 12). Broken marriages always involve at least one partner moving away from God *lost the reference for it

        • 3. Mutual submission

        • Ephesians 5:21-33 Submission begins with the gospel. 21 submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.
        • explains that women are to submit to their husbands as the church submits to Christ, and the husband is to love his wife as Christ loved the church. Marriage is first and foremost an example of the gospel.
        • Mutual is not simultaneous.

          • 4. Covenant not contract

          • What God joined together, let man not separate Matthew 19:3-6 This also is referencing Genesis 2:24.
          • Jesus says: Moses granted divorce to satisfy the hardness of the hearts but that was not Gods original design
          • Malachi 2:14-16 also references the covenant
          • Genesis 15 - Abraham covenant
