Recounts the tragic case of Layan Talib, a six-year-old Lebanese girl whose death drew national attention and contributed to the reinstatement of the death penalty in Lebanon. Initially thought to be from an unknown illness after visiting her mother following her parents’ divorce, suspicion arose when her mother and maternal family refused an autopsy and prevented her father from seeing her body. The investigation revealed that Layan had died from serious internal injuries caused by a violent assault. Her maternal uncle, Nader Bou Khalil, confessed, and it was discovered that Layan’s mother and grandmother were aware of the assault and helped conceal it. All three—the uncle, mother, and grandmother—were sentenced to death for their roles in the crime and its cover-up.
