The West got Sufism wrong. Stereotyped by orientalists as apolitical, peaceful poets lost in personal spirituality, they missed the warriors within.

In this episode of Stories of Resistance, we travel to Somalia to explore the incredible story of the Dervishes, a Sufi order that fiercely resisted European colonialism for nearly 30 years. Led by the iconic Sayyid Muhammad Abdullah Hassan, also known as the "Mad Mullah" by the British, the Dervishes fought for their faith, freedom, and way of life.
