Publisher's Summary:
When the first of the Magdalene Scrolls arrives, Professor Ben Messer is puzzled, intrigued, excited. What scholar of ancient languages wouldn't be when he held in his hands something even more astonishing than the Dead Sea Scrolls - a scroll just discovered to contain the life story and last confession of a man who had lived in Jerusalem just after the death of Christ.
By the time the second scroll arrives, Ben's interest has begun to be more than professional. For it seems that David, the writer of the ancient scrolls, is in many ways very like Ben - and he seems to be speaking directly to Ben across nearly 2,000 years of history. Before long the terrifying transformation has begun, and there can be no turning back.
What do the words of a Jew who lived 2,000 years ago have to do with today and with Ben Messer, a man who had forsaken his Jewish identity years ago - or thought he had. And why does David's life suddenly seem so much more real - and powerful - than Ben's own? Why does Ben suddenly shut himself off from the beautiful woman he intends to marry and become involved with Judy Golden, a very different kind of woman? And what will happen if Ben surrenders completely to the power of the scrolls?
Combining elements of the supernatural, history, and religion, Barbara Wood has fashioned a breathtakingly suspenseful story of one man's confrontation with himself.

DIsappointing
First I must say that I have read almost all of the books by Barbara Wood and she has always been one of my favorite authors!! However, the Magdalene Scrolls is my very least liked book of hers. I actually wondered if someone else had written it. It is dark, filled with angst and has very few characters (unlike her other books.) It does contain some interesting historical facts but it often repeats itself in the storytelling. I was very disappointed and almost didn't finish it----something I never do. I still love her other books but will look at future writings with a more skeptical eye.
Not her best
I've read all of Barbara Wood's books and in my opinion this one was not her best. I usually get caught up in the plot immediately but not this one.

It was one of my favorite books of Barbara Wood when I was in my early 20s. I am now 60 years old and I still like it a lot, but it does repeat itself a lot. It is an interesting story, about the time around Jesus, the Jewish traditions and thoughts of their believes and the beginning of Christianity. It is about struggle of faith and love.
Five Stars
Great book, fast delivery
Interesting theme
Interesting theme. Unfortunatley the author repeats herself regularly and makes to much use of cliches.
