In The Magical Mimics in Oz, Princess Ozma and Glinda depart for a Fairy Council, leaving Dorothy to rule with the Wizard as her advisor. Unbeknownst to them, the evil Mimics of Mount Illuso, led by King Umb and Queen Ra, discover a way to bypass an ancient protective spell. Ra and Umb fly to the Emerald City, steal the forms of Dorothy and the Wizard, and imprison the real ones on Mount Illuso, planning to find a charm to break Queen Lurline's original enchantment and conquer Oz. The real Dorothy and Wizard escape their prison with the help of Princess Ozana, the long-lost fairy guardian of Mount Illuso, and her wooden elevator operator, Hi-Lo. Meanwhile, Toto alerts the Scarecrow and others in the Emerald City that something is amiss with "Dorothy" and "the Wizard." Just as the Mimics are about to unleash their full horde and Ozma and Glinda return, Ozana arrives and uses her fairy arts to defeat the Mimics, shattering their power by destroying a magical web and sending them back to their realm through mirrored magic. Ozana is then welcomed to live in Oz, and her magical Story Blossom Garden is transported there, ensuring a happy ending for all. This story emphasizes themes of deception, loyalty, the courage of the seemingly small (like Toto), and the triumph of good over carefully laid evil plans.
