Early spring, a closed campground in the Bitterroot Mountains. I met a caretaker who found a hand-drawn map in a hollow log. He showed it to me, and my name appeared on it. I followed the map to a tree with a door built into its trunk. Inside was a room with a book that described my own actions before I took them. The map changes as you hold it. I left with the map still in my pocket, and I haven't been able to get rid of it. This is a story about being chosen by a place that wants to be found, and the cost of looking.
