In the summer of 2019, a volunteer at the Three Forks Ranger Station in northern Montana began receiving hand-drawn maps slipped under the door at night. The maps showed trails that didn't exist on any official survey — trails that led to places the volunteer recognized from dreams she'd never told anyone about. When she followed one of those maps into the woods, she found a cairn of stones with a notebook inside, written in her own handwriting from a date that hadn't happened yet.
