Publisher's Summary:
China is growing in power and in need of raw materials. When an aggressive general, with encouragement from an unnamed puppet master in the Politburo, moves to seize the Spratly Islands from the Philippines and Taiwan, the Marines of the 15th MEU are the only unit in position to do anything about it. What makes things more difficult is that the Chinese have made great strides in cyber warfare that have negated America's technological superiority. What will be the result of years of letting China manufacture electronic components and even parts for the U.S. aircraft, satellites, and communications systems?
"Every Marine is a rifleman" has never been more true when the ultimate weapon in the nation's arsenal is the basic infantryman. But can Captain Tony Niimoto, a hero of both the embassy takeover in New Delhi and the hostage rescue in Somalia, lead his company against an overwhelming force of the finest of the People's Liberation Army? Can Sergeant Harrington Steptoe, Sergeant "Jay" McNamara, and First Lieutenant Peter Van Slyke step up into the mantle of leadership when all the odds are against them?
This is volume three of The Return of the Marines. Some of the characters have been introduced in the previous volumes, but The Marines is a standalone book in its own right.

A sneak preview of what could happen in the future
"The Marines" is another interesting story, full of opportunities for readers to learn many things. It can be hard to follow for readers who don't know much about military, geography, and Asian culture. It's good thing that we all know how to do google search for answers when we come across something that we don't know.
The story is full of Asian names and places. After first 3 chapters, it was hard to put the book down. The names, the places, and the events were all very real as if I was reading current events, just like reading "The Few". The story gives readers a sneak preview of what could happen in the future. The book inspired me to relearn many things. It was a surprised to see a quote from Sun Tzu's dictum. I knew a little about Sun Tzu's dictum from high school study and wish that I could remember more.
I want to thank author for getting me out of my box. His books are enjoyable to read and they broaden my thinking. I used to read only text books and technical books. After reading "The Few", I look forward to reading all his books and other books that are not my favorite subjects.
Marines have more fun
I was at first a bit leery of this book. There are a lot of people, who write military fiction but don't know anything about the military. However this was not the case in this book, the author has the feel of the Corps down. I liked it for that reason and more. I have had a great respect for the Marine Corps since I was a young boy and it has grown over the years. Not since I read W.E.B. Griffin's series the Corps have I had a chance to read a good story about the Marines. But now I have gotten a new look at the Marines in the future. I would recommend this book and Brazee's other two books The Few and The Proud to anyone, who likes stories of the military especially the Marines.
The Return of the Marines By Jonathan Brazee
This is a good follow up to his first novel. The situation is similar, Yet different. Lots of action.
