Catholic Daily Readings and Reflection for July 20, 2025 – Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Theme: Serving From Love, Not Stress
Are you serving God... or just staying busy for Him?
Today’s Sunday mass readings dive deep into the Martha Complex—the trap of doing so much for God that we forget to be with God.
In Genesis, Abraham runs to welcome strangers with joyful hospitality, modeling what it means to serve from the overflow of relationship.
In Luke’s Gospel, Martha is distracted, anxious, and resentful while her sister Mary simply sits at Jesus’s feet. One is busy for Jesus. The other is present with Him.
Colossians reminds us that true ministry fills what is lacking not by effort alone, but by Christ dwelling in us, producing fruit through love.
The Psalm shows that true righteousness flows from walking with God, not working for approval.
This reflection shows that the issue isn’t serving—it’s serving from emptiness. Jesus isn’t criticizing Martha for doing the wrong thing but for doing the right thing with the wrong heart.
