Twenty years ago when the Marvelous Barastro was young man he traveled as a magician with a small carnival across Eastern Europe. One night the settled in a small village in Russia and the villagers gathered around them. It was here that he met the woman who was blind with her grandfather and he could not bear to tell her future and the agony that laid ahead for her.
