“The Mask and The Mirror”

Keep playing this projected blame game, trying to hang each other—

Pointing fingers because you’re the same,

Or claim a different name.

Proclaim fame in forgiveness free from shame.

There is no freedom in the fast lane.

It’s time to find your way out.

And every time you crouch, and stare down each other like you are about to shout,

Reach out to each other, and find common ground.

It’s somewhere there, around you both.

This is not what you chose, but you can send this pain below.

Just know there is passion and love in the same hate you show each other.

Deny thyself, but not your brother—pick up the slack for one another.

Take off the mask.

Learn how to take a breath before you react.

The task is easier said than done,

But this is not a battle that can be fought on sides and won.

Put down your smoking gun and look at the sunrise.

Take up tithes,

And look each other in the eyes.

This life is a team sport.

We get bent out of shape and out of sorts,

But there doesn’t have to be a vacant last resort on an island all alone.

You won’t own victory; and you already know.

So set down the sword, and show those you love that you care,

Because when push comes to shove, your love will always be there.

Let peace fill the air and clear the air of hate.

Find grace.

Quit running a rat race.

Instead, set a steady pace,

And lace yourselves together in the love radiated from above.
