In 1987, the people in the United States city of Chicago, were watching the evening TV. And then without warning the signal changed. The TV picture flickered and the sound dissolved into a harsh electronic buzz. On the screen appeared a figure wearing a rubber mask of the cult figure Max Headroom, the stuttering, sarcastic, artificially generated TV personality who had become an icon of 80s pop culture. His movements were jerky. His voice distorted and nonsensical. Then suddenly as it began, the broadcast returned to normal. It lasted only seconds. But it was to be one of the most infamous broadcast hijackings in American history.
