Not since George Brandis' ill-fated interview with Sky News Political Editor David Speers has metadata caused such intrigue in Canberra.
At the heart of the matter is a document provided by Energy Minister Angus Taylor's office to the Daily Telegraph which alleged the City of Sydney council's travel bill amounted to $15 million.
But the Minister has now come under fire himself after it was revealed the Council's actual travel cost was less than $6,000.
