  • Can $1 Change a Life? Shashana Kaplan on PIFster, Micro-Donations & Community Impact

Can a $1 donation really make a difference?

In this Impact Interview on The Maytte Dusseau Show, Maytte sits down with Shashana Kaplan, co-founder and President of PIFster, a micro-donation platform designed to make charitable giving accessible, transparent, and meaningful.

PIFster allows people to give as little as $1 per month, suggest causes they care about, vote on where the collective funds should go, and then see how those donations are actually used. The idea is simple: when enough people give a little, together they can create extraordinary impact.

Shashana shares how the idea began during the COVID pandemic, when she started noticing small nonprofits and neighbors in her own community quietly helping people in need. One experience, helping a senior citizen who couldn't afford both her utility bill and charging her electric wheelchair, showed Shashana what could happen when a community came together around one very specific need.

    That experience eventually became PIFster.

In this conversation, we talk about:

    - Micro-donations and charitable giving

    - How $1 donations can create meaningful impact

    - Nonprofit transparency and trust

    - Community-based philanthropy

    - Supporting small nonprofits

    - Giving families and individuals direct support

    - How PIFster vets charitable organizations and causes

    - Teaching children about generosity and giving back

    - Creating a culture of service

    - The ripple effect of helping others

    - Starting a nonprofit

    - Turning an idea into action

    - Overcoming setbacks while building a mission-driven organization

    - How giving benefits the giver as well as the receiver

Shashana also shares powerful stories of people and organizations PIFster has supported, including helping a child receive needed medical care, providing an adaptive bicycle for a teenager with cerebral palsy, supporting small community nonprofits, and funding very specific needs that may otherwise have gone unnoticed.

One of the most powerful ideas in this episode is that people want to help, but they often do not know how.

PIFster makes giving simple. It lowers the financial barrier to participation and allows donors to see exactly how collective generosity can change lives.

Shashana also talks about the importance of involving children in giving, allowing them to choose causes they care about and showing them that even a small contribution can make them part of the solution.

    If you have ever wondered:

Does my small donation really matter?

How can I make a difference in my community?

How do I know where my charitable donations are going?

What can one person realistically do to help?

    This conversation is for you.

  • Is It Wrong to Want More?

Have you built a successful life, accomplished what you thought you wanted, and still found yourself wondering, Is there something more for me?

In this episode of Dear Maytte on The Maytte Dusseau Show, Maytte explores the tension between gratitude and desire, and why wanting more does not mean you are ungrateful for the life you have created.

For many women, especially after years of building careers, families, and meaningful lives, the definition of success begins to change. What once felt fulfilling may no longer feel like the full expression of who you are becoming. That desire for something more can bring excitement, but it can also bring guilt, self-doubt, and questions like, Who am I to want more? Is it too late? Am I being selfish?

In this conversation, Maytte shares why personal growth and expansion are a natural part of life, how gratitude and desire can exist at the same time, and how to begin exploring what your next chapter might look like.

You’ll hear practical questions and reflections to help you uncover:

What may be calling you forward

Whether your current definition of success still fits

The limiting beliefs that may be keeping you from exploring something new

How to identify what brings you joy, meaning, and excitement

How to reconnect with dreams you may have set aside

How to make a new decision about what is possible for you

How to embody the next version of yourself

How to take one small aligned step toward your next chapter

Maytte also shares her own story of feeling drawn to a metaphysical bookstore years before opening one herself, and how a long-held desire can sometimes reappear when we are finally ready to explore it.

If you have been asking yourself, What’s next for me?, this episode is an invitation to get curious rather than judge the desire.

You can be grateful for everything you have built and still want something more.

Your life is allowed to continue growing and expanding. And you get to decide what the next chapter looks like.

  • Childhood Hearing Loss & Hearing Aids: Christy Vogel on Sounding Joy and Creating Impact

What happens when a painful childhood experience becomes the foundation for a mission that changes other children’s lives?

In this Impact Interview on The Maytte Dusseau Show, Maytte sits down with Christy Vogel, founder of Sounding Joy, to talk about childhood hearing loss, hearing aids for children, resilience, purpose, and the power of turning personal struggle into meaningful impact.

Christy shares how she first discovered her hearing loss at age 11, how she unknowingly taught herself to read lips, and what it was like growing up without the hearing aids she needed. For years, she believed she was less capable or slower than those around her, only to later realize how much she had been missing simply because she could not hear clearly.

At age 27, Christy finally received hearing aids, and the experience changed the way she understood herself and her life. Years later, she began asking a bigger question: What happens to children whose families cannot afford the hearing support they need?

That question ultimately led to the creation of Sounding Joy, a nonprofit helping children access hearing aids and connecting families with audiology providers throughout Florida. Christy explains how the organization was born, why there is still a significant gap for many working families, and why helping children hear can affect confidence, education, connection, and overall well-being.

In this conversation, we talk about:

    Childhood hearing loss

    Hearing aids for children

The emotional effects of growing up with untreated hearing loss

    Lip reading and communication

    Confidence, self-worth, and identity

    Turning hardship into purpose

    Starting a nonprofit

    How Sounding Joy helps families

    The importance of pediatric audiologists

    Gratitude and resilience

    Overcoming fear and taking action

Creating impact even when you do not know where to begin

Christy also shares why one of the most important things anyone can do when they feel called to make a difference is simply start asking questions. Her story is a powerful reminder that we do not have to know the whole path before we begin.

And perhaps the message that captures her journey best:

You are unstoppable. You do not have to do it alone. And you can create massive impact.

If you have ever made a decision to change something in your life, whether around your health, finances, relationships, habits, or personal growth, and then found yourself not following through, this conversation is for you.

Breaking promises to yourself does not mean you are lazy, incapable, or broken. Often, it means there is an old pattern, belief, or identity that is still operating underneath the surface.

In this episode, I talk about how to begin rebuilding self-trust by creating awareness around your patterns, identifying the meaning you are giving to your lack of follow-through, making a new decision, and taking small aligned actions that support the person you are becoming.

This is how change begins: not through perfection, but through awareness, repetition, and choosing again.

  • What’s Holding You Back? Fear, Limiting Beliefs & Self-Sabotage Explained

Have you done the work, read the books, taken the courses, and gotten clear about what you want, only to find yourself losing momentum, getting distracted, or falling back into old patterns?

In this episode of Dear Maytte on The Maytte Dusseau Show, Maytte explores what may really be holding you back, including fear, limiting beliefs, self-sabotage, fear of failure, fear of success, uncertainty, and subconscious beliefs that can keep you attached to what feels familiar.

You’ll learn why creating something new often requires more than motivation. It requires becoming aware of the beliefs driving your thoughts, emotions, and behavior, helping your nervous system feel safe with change, and beginning to embody a new identity.

Maytte also explores why discomfort does not necessarily mean you are on the wrong path. Sometimes discomfort is simply what happens when you begin stepping beyond what is familiar and becoming the person capable of creating the life you truly want.

    In this episode:

What may really be holding you back

Fear of failure and fear of success

    Limiting and subconscious beliefs

Why familiar patterns can feel safer than change

    Self-sabotage and loss of momentum

Nervous system safety and personal growth

How beliefs influence thoughts, feelings, actions, and results

Identity change and becoming the person you want to be

How to uncover the belief behind a recurring pattern

If you’ve been asking yourself, “Why do I keep holding myself back?”, this episode will help you begin looking beneath the behavior and uncovering what may really be driving it.
