In today's gospel, the death of Lazarus is allowed by Jesus because He is about to reveal Himself. He takes a great risk by going back to Bethany. He also shows us His hatred of death and His desire to destroy death’s power over us. And on the cross, Jesus shows His willingness to take our place in death that we might have life in Him.

Human life and the reality of death have meaning. Life is found only in a living relationship with Jesus. Death no longer has the final say; Jesus does.
