Australian Society of Ophthalmologists Dr Peter Sumich spoke to the program about the federal government’s Medical Costs Finder. The Medical Costs Finder is an online tool that helps patients find out more about the cost of specialist medical services. “It is a terrific initiative to promote transparency and patient choice,” Dr Sumich said. “Over time, as awareness increases it will become even more valuable.” The online tool covers common services in and out of hospital and the results are based on the most recent publicly available government data about what patients have paid for medical services.
