Therapeutic Brass Tacks with Bruyère

The Mermaid and the Mariner

Listen Later

This is a poem written and read by writer Heather Angelika Dooley. It is a piece about a woman who sits out on her patio writing out her thoughts about what it looks like to feel like a mermaid lost at sea, imaging her life as a oceanic romantic, while feeling like a misunderstood siren by the sailors who, actually, find her first and promise her things that they cannot carry out on land. She is searching for her footing when she believes that she should have never tried to have lured them in or had been asked to accept them as as they are. Each mariner fell in love with her as a mermaid, but then could not understand how deep she could swim without doubting her breath for life, while she was feeling underwater in their above life of mediocrity, and unbalanced on fins that never turned to legs for them.
