The Messiah

means “the Anointed One”—the One chosen, appointed, and empowered by God to accomplish His saving purpose for humanity.

What the Messiah Represents in Scripture

  • God’s chosen Savior — the One who would rescue humanity from sin
  • God’s appointed King — the ruler of God’s eternal kingdom
  • The Suffering Servant — who would bear our sins and bring healing (Isaiah 53)
  • The Redeemer — restoring the broken relationship between God and people
  • The Fulfillment of Prophecy — the One promised throughout the Old Testament.
