“I think, just as in Jesus’ time, people were so used to doing things the way they have gotten used to it. Sanay na sanay na silang gawin ‘yong mga bagay ayon sa kanilang nakasanayan, ayon sa kanilang kagustuhan. But Jesus, just like the Holy Spirit is dynamic. Ito ‘yong laging sinasabi ng Santo Papa. Iniimbitahan ko po kayong basahin ‘yong kanyang mga homiliya. He would always tell us, ‘the Holy Spirit is dynamic.’ Jesus does not cage himself in traditions, although traditions are very good for us. Don’t get me wrong, when I was a Protestant, I used to tell people na lahat ng mga tradisyon, hindi ‘yan dapat sinusunod. Mali po ‘yan. Because the Church is built on traditions. But what is being presented in the Gospel here is, we have to be humble enough to allow ourselves to be challenged in the way we live our faith.”
