We do not want to watch the narrative of scripture as disinterested third parties.  This has very personal implications for us today.

The problems resulting from the fall are not only horizontal (between man and nature, or man and man) but the major problems are vertical, between God and man.

From Genesis 3-6 we see

1) Dis-union from God

2) Hatred of God

3) Judgement from God
