In this episode of The Daily Weekly, we explore “the Michigan Mentality” — the devotion to the University of Michigan and belief that it is truly the best university in the world from fans, faculty, students and alumni alike. We strove to figure out what exactly about the University creates such exceptional school spirit.

We first took the pulse of the student body, interviewing members as they passed through the Diag to see what they thought composed the Michigan Mentality. We then sat down with Kendall Brown, University Athletics fan experience & game presentation coordinator, who gave insight into the behind-the-scenes efforts of cultivating the spirit of a football game at the Big House. Finally, we sat down with Political Science Professor  Andrei Markovits, who gave us insight into the sociological understanding of fandom, and consequences of this phenomenon, on societies.
